Panel members and the audience discussed the use of data visualization methods, software, and hardware in presenting abstract information contained in databases, digital libraries, and other extensive collections of data and information. The panelists and the audience discussed how to create effective visualizations and how to use them in information navigation, retrieval, and access in the information highway environment.
In her presentation, Bushell cited examples of communications with complex data and information that incorporate visual, qualitative representations and quantitative data--e. g., scientific visualization, interface design, cartography. Ideas for future features of NCSA Mosaic and suggestions for the graphic design of "home pages" were presented.
