Alliance Users Featured in Science

released May 23, 2000

The May 19 edition of Science Magazine and Science Online includes a research article by Yiqing Du, department of mechanical engineering, MIT; and George Karniadakis, division of applied mathematics, Brown University. The article, "Supressing Wall Turbulence by Means of a Transverse Traveling Wave," examines visualizations that were done to study turbulence control techniques.

The computations were performed on Alliance supercomputers—the SGI Origin2000 array at NCSA and the IBM SP at the Maui High Performance Computing Center. The team's research is funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and the Office of Naval Research.
