Advanced CAVE Workshop Series Begins in August

released July 18, 2000

Intensive three-day workshops will present advanced programming and visualization techniques that optimize the use of the CAVE and ImmersaDesk virtual reality display systems. Participants will gain a clear understanding of programming techniques that visualize data and objects in the CAVE and ImmersaDesk systems and that output CAVE visualizations into other forms of media such as videotapes, animations, and slides. The presenters of this course are experts and leading developers in the field. This workshop is not intended as an introduction to or information evaluation of these virtual reality systems.

Each workshop will follow the same schedule, with some site-specific courses. Organizers will attempt to select a mix of participants from various fields and industries. Because the workshops include hands-on exercises, registration is limited to 20 people at each site. Dates and locations are:

August 15-17 at University of Michigan
October 17-19 at Old Dominion University
February 6-8, 2001, at University of Puerto Rico

The series concludes on April 11, 2001, with a Demonstration Seminar at the ACCESS Center in Arlington, VA, for all academic, governmental, and corporate institutions interested in CAVE training and application development. The workshops and seminar will be broadcast over the Access Grid.

For more information about the workshop series, see http://calder.ncsa.uiuc.edu/CAVERNUS_Workshop/ or email Tom Coffin at tcoffin@ncsa.uiuc.edu. To register, go to http://calder.ncsa.uiuc.edu/CAVERNUS_Workshop/registration.html.

The CAVE Workshop Series is Sponsored by CAVERNUS (the CAVE Research Network Users Society), the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), the National Laboratory for Applied Network Research (NLANR), The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), Internet2, Alliance Center for Collaboration, Education, Science, and Software (ACCESS), University of Michigan, Old Dominion University, University of Puerto Rico, Silicon Graphics Inc.
