Mitchell Named NCSA's Director for Strategic Collaborations

released July 21, 2000

NCSA is initiating an Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement (IPA) with the National Science Foundation allowing Donald R. Mitchell to accept a new NCSA position as Visiting Associate Director for Strategic Collaborations. Mitchell was a staff associate in the division of Advanced Networking Infrastructure and Research (ANIR) in NSF's directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). Mitchell works out of the Alliance's ACCESS Center in Arlington, VA, and will be a member of the NCSA Director's Office. His appointment runs from July 1, 2000, through Dec. 31, 2001.

In his new capacity Mitchell will lead NCSA's efforts to aggressively engage commercial collaborators in the area of networking technologies to support the PACI mission. He will particularly focus on exploring and developing partnerships with Internet service providers, exploring and developing teaming arrangements between NCSA and leading-edge research sites to support high-end networking technologies and applications, and helping create and develop testbeds that will attract commercial equipment vendors to test and deploy new and emerging technologies.
