CS Departments Needed to Host Events Recruiting Women to Graduate School

The Committee on the Status of Women in
Computing Research (CRA-W), an EOT-PACI partner, and Lucent Technologies are sponsoring a Distinguished Lecture Series to
encourage females and minorities to pursue graduate education in scientific and
technological disciplines. Ten university sites are needed for the fall 2000
term to host the series' events, each of which will feature Ph.D. faculty,
industry laboratory researchers, and current graduate students.
The success of the series requires a collaborative effort. CRA-W organizes all
events, providing program content, speakers, and funding. The host institution
schedules meeting rooms, arranges advertising, tailors the event to the local
culture, and advises the organizers on other local arrangements. An appropriate
Distinguished Lecturer is chosen collaboratively.
CRA-W invites all interested computer science departments to apply to participate
in this event. Department chairs are asked to email Program Coordinator Carla
Ellis at carla@cs.duke.edu as soon as
possible. For more information about the series as well as specific information
that should be included in letters of interest, see http://www.cs.duke.edu/~carla/craw.html.
The program overview is available at http://www.cra.org/Activities/craw/dist_lect.html. The series'
first two events, held in the spring, are described in an article at
http://www.cra.org/Activities/craw/dls.html.
