DARPA Schedules Quantum Information Science and Technology (QuIST) Workshop
released
August 22, 2000
The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) and Information Technology Office (ITO) of the
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) are sponsoring a team-forming
workshop on Quantum Information Science and Technology (QuIST). The workshop will
be held October 23 and 24 at the Greenbelt Marriott Hotel in Greenbelt, MD.
Attendance at the workshop is optional, but highly recommended for all potential
bidders. The goals of this workshop are to explore all facets of the research
necessary to create a new technology based on quantum information science and to
promote formation of teams that can advance this research on several fronts.
Research in this area has the ultimate goal of demonstrating the potentially
significant advantages of quantum mechanical effects in communication and
computing.
The workshop agenda will feature several technology overview presentations by
government personnel and several poster session forums including summary
overviews to facilitate interaction and team forming amongst the participants to
assist in responding to a planned DARPA solicitation early in FY01.
Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare posters and very short summary
overview presentations describing areas of capabilities and interest to
facilitate communications, interactions, and team prospecting. A short abstract
of each poster presentation is required.
Details on the conference are at the QuIST website at http://www.sainc.com/conference/View/index.asp?M eetingID=131. Registration deadline is Sept. 29, 2000, or as soon as
attendance reaches capacity. For further administrative information contact
Melissa Trapani (mtrapani@snap.org). Make
sure to mention the QuIST workshop in your correspondence.
