Industry Leaders Form Linux Open Source Development Lab

released September 5, 2000

Intel Corporation, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and NEC Corporation are among the companies forming the nonprofit Open Source Development Lab. The lab will be the industry's first independent, non-profit lab for developers of Linux software and enterprise capabilities. The lab will be located near Portland, OR, and is expected to open before the end of the year. Additional companies that are supporting the lab are Caldera Systems, Dell Computer, Linuxcare, LynuxWorks, Red Hat, Silicon Graphics, SuSE, TurboLinux, and VA Linux Systems.

The lab will provide open source developers with a centralized enterprise development environment for sharing development ideas and innovations. It will not create new projects; instead, it will help accelerate existing or new projects developed by the open source community. More information is available at http://www.osdlab.org/.
