Research Assistantships Available at the UNM

released September 19, 2000

The University of New Mexico, one of the Alliance's Partners for Advanced Computational Services (PACS), has research assistantship positions available in the electrical and computer engineering (EECE) and computer science departments.

The assistantships will focus on three projects. The first is to develop, assess, and refine algorithms for parallel computing on symmetric multiprocessors (SMPs). In the second project, the research assistant will help develop efficient parallel methods for the reconstruction of optimal phylogenies for large problems using high-performance computing platforms. The main objective of the third project is to develop innovative computational methods for applying high-performance computing to fundamental problems arising in global change ecosystems and land cover studies.

Each research assistant will receive a competitive stipend plus paid tuition. Students wishing to earn a Ph.D. in one of these areas are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants should complete an official application for graduate studies in the EECE and computer science departments.
