NEESgrid metadata workshop set for August

released July 15, 2003

NCSA will present a two-day workshop on the NEESgrid metadata services (NMDS) on Aug. 6 and 7 at the South Research Park, 1901 S. First St., Champaign.

Metadata is central to the design of NEESgrid, but must be implemented through the coordinated effort of the equipment sites and the NEESgrid metadata team. The workshop will present and discuss the services, tools, paradigms, and interfaces to the NMDS. It will also offer attendees hands-on experience with the tools and user interfaces NEESgrid will provide for metadata management and browsing. Attendees will receive documentation for key NEESgrid data and metadata components, protocols, and APIs.

At the conclusion of this workshop, equipment site researchers will be able to generate the domain-specific metadata schemas necessary for describing each site's experiments in a way that is useful from an engineering point of view while conforming to the NEESgrid repository paradigm.

To register for the workshop, please email dgehrig@ncsa.uiuc.edu by Aug. 1.
