TRECC supports investment forum

released June 21, 2005

The Technology Research, Education, and Commercialization Center (TRECC) provided IT support for the second statewide Illinois Business and Investor Forum (ILBIF) in early June. The forum allowed angel and early-stage investors from across the state to gather at three locations—Chicago, West Chicago, and Peoria—for interactive communication enabled by Access Grid technology.

The purpose of the ILBIF is to bring together accredited investors in order to provide information on early-stage investing in addition and to showcase vetted blue chip business plans and intellectual property offerings from major corporations, laboratories, and universities seeking early-stage investment. The goal is to create a statewide network of early-stage accredited investors who are interested in investing in viable business opportunities. The June forum presented three investment opportunities from early-stage businesses, one intellectual property presentation, and two presentations on investor focused content.

In addition to using the Access Grid technology at TRECC's West Chicago facility, the ILBIF also used TRECC's Portable Access Grid at the Chicago site, DePaul University. The Portable Access Grid contains the software and hardware required for a site with the network connectivity to participate in an Access Grid session. This was the first use of the Portable Access Grid outside of TRECC.
