CASC to provide grants for SC05 attendance
released August 03, 2005
The Coalition for Academic Scientific Computing (CASC) will award stipends for the purpose of attending SC05 Nov. 12-18, in Seattle to three faculty members or information technology professionals who are members of traditionally underrepresented groups. The IEEE/ACM-sponsored SC conference is among the largest and most important international gatherings of experts in high-performance and grid computing, advanced networking, and scientific visualization.
The stipends will cover all reasonable costs, including registration and tutorial fees, travel, lodging, and meal expenses, and incidentals. CASC will award stipends on the basis of a brief proposal from the applicant and a letter of support from a CASC participant. Details of the program, along with the full call for proposals, are available online at http://www.casc.org/.
One obstacle faced by many faculty members who attend SC05 is the management of teaching responsibilities at their home institutions. To help alleviate this burden, CASC will make available teleconferencing equipment in order for recipients to fulfill teaching or other professional responsibilities while attending SC. If necessary, CASC will also loan teleconferencing equipment to the recipient's home institution.
For more information or to initiate the application process, contact CASC.
