CHASS workshop to be held Dec. 9
released November 14, 2005
The Center for Computing in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Science (CHASS), a joint effort of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) will hold a workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9 to enable scholars in the humanities, arts, social sciences, and computer science to discuss projects that use advanced digital tools. The event will be held in the first floor Lecture Hall at the NCSA Building (1205 W. Clark St., Urbana) and will also be available via the Access Grid.
Presentations will include: - Data Mining and Visualization Tools at NCSA, presented by Donna Cox, director of NCSA's Visualization Division, and Michael Welge, director of the center's Data Division.
- William G. Thomas III, professor of History and John and Catherine Angel Chair in the Humanities, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- Stephen Plog, Commonwealth Professor of Anthropology, University of Virginia.
- Mapping and Analysis for Spatial Social Science, presented by Luc Anselin, Faculty Excellence Professor and Director of the Spatial Analysis Laboratory, UIUC Department of Geography.
- Morris Eaves, professor of English, University of Rochester.
- Opportunities at UIUC for Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Science, a question and answer session with representatives of NCSA, computer science, Cultural Computing Program, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Seedbed Initiative, and the University Library.
