Entrepreneurial awards go to current, former NCSA employees

Inc. Magazine has named former NCSA employee Ping Fu its Entrepreneur of the Year. Her company, Geomagic, was launched in Champaign and later relocated to Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The firm specializes in digital shape sampling and processing.
The Illini Entrepreurship Center, which was founded in 2003 by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to serve as a catalyst for business development, recently honored local businesses and entrepreneurs with Innovation Celebration Awards. The Early-Stage Start-up Award went to RiverGlass, Inc., a company founded in 2003 to commercialize data mining technology developed at NCSA under the leadership of Michael Welge, the leader of the center's Data Division.
