ATLANTA, GA — Internet2 and SURA are sponsoring the third in a series of workshops addressing the campus issues of engineering Internet2 network infrastructure. The workshop will be held May 30 and 31 at the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology in Atlanta.

Advanced campus networks are key to providing faculty and students with world class networking infrastructure. At the Spring 2001 Internet2 Member Meeting the design of the End-to-End Performance Initiative was presented with the goal to create a predictable and well-supported environment. Campuses, at the "ends" of the end-to-end connection, play a crucial role in all aspects of advanced networking.

This workshop is aimed at campus network personnel and will center on implementing advanced network services in the campus environment and the End-to-End Performance Initiative. Participants will learn what they can do now to implement advanced services on their campus. Participants will also discuss current roadblocks and technologies needed to implement advanced services.

Planned topics for the workshop include:

  • Campus implementation of Advanced Services including multicast, QoS, and IPv6
  • End-to-end performance and measurement
  • Network management for End-to-End Services
  • Campus input to the Internet2 direction

A priority will be given to allow one person per Internet2 campus to attend. Second attendees from a campus will be added on a space available basis. The workshop will also include selected regional and national networking representatives and selected corporate members.

The workshops hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 30 and 31. For more information on the workshop contact Russ Hobby at rdhobby@internet2.edu.

The Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA), a consortium of colleges and universities in the southern United States and the District of Columbia, and Internet2®, led by over 180 US universities working with industry and government, Internet2, are jointly responsible for planning and organizing of the workshop.
