NCSA Selects Six Faculty Fellows for 2004-2005

CHAMPAIGN, IL — The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) has chosen six faculty members at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as Faculty Fellows for 2004-2005.

The Faculty Fellows program, directed by Radha Nandkumar and now in its sixth year, works to extend opportunities in advanced computing and information technology to UIUC faculty. In addition to financial support, Faculty Fellows have access to NCSA's high-performance computers, visualization and virtual reality environments, and opportunities to collaborate with NCSA staff. Awards are administered through NCSA's Campus Relations office, which fosters and strengthens the ties between the University community and NCSA.
The 2004-2005 Faculty Fellows are:

  • Luc Anselin, Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, "Extending the Frontier of Multivariate Geovisualization"

  • Brian Bailey, Department of Computer Science, "Designing for Design: Interaction Techniques for Large Display Walls"

  • Stephen D'Arcy, Department of Finance, "Predictive Modeling in Automobile Insurance"

  • Douglas Kibbee, Department of French, "Facilitating the study of prescriptive language behavior through automatic database building and data extraction"

  • Marianne Winslett, Department of Computer Science, "Negotiating Trust on the Grid"

  • Yuanhui Zhang, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, "Animation of Stereoscopic Experimental Data of Air Flow and Pollutant Transmission in an Aircraft Cabin"
